What's Your Lottery Fantasy?

The other day, I had lunch with Kimberly Rock who lives in the cute little yellow house on Main Street (and whose husband, Eric, runs Pulp Products in Torrington). We were having one of those discussions that us expats often have. We were talking about how much we love Falls Village and how we would like to see all the storefronts on Main Street filled with thriving businesses (Welcome, Sweet William's Bakery!) and how we dream about the Falls Village Inn becoming a true community tavern. "Buying the Inn and making it work is my Lottery Fantasy," she said. "If I had an extra million dollars, that's what I would do."

I was nonplussed, because that is MY Lottery Fantasy (although I never buy lottery tickets so maybe I am just full of beans). I thought this was a funny coincidence, a bonding moment for me and Kimberly. I thought maybe we should drive over to the Village Deli Mart and buy Lottery tickets together.

And then while I was working backstage at FVCT's "Ciinderella," Cheryl Pecha told me that HER lottery fantasy is to buy the Inn and make it the kind of restaurant where everybody in town would feel comfortable--a real neighborhood joint. (Cheryl used to run a cafe where Toymaker's is now, so she understands what this might entail.) I was beginning to think that there may be a Falls Village Collective Consciousness and that everyone in town has the same Lottery Fantasy.

Does anyone know what is happening with the Inn? Today when I drove by the corner of Route 7 & 126, the Inn's sandwich board sign was gone. What does that portend? Does anyone know if Claudia and Stefan will ever return and reopen it? According to Elyse Harney Real Estate, the Inn can be yours (or ours) for $1.25 million.

What would YOU like to see happen to the Inn? Please post a comment. (You may need a free Google email address to do so.)

If only we could get the people who run the Woodland to take it over. That would be great

This is a tough problem, either Stefan and Claudia take it off the market and lease it to someone, (they might want 5 years making it unlikely) or they manage to sell it despite the price. I wonder if an inn/pub would ever pay back that investment.
Either way we may be looking at years of stagnation.

Maybe when the firemen move to their new location on route 7 the old firehouse could house a pub?
The town could make some income from rent?

Flaming shots anyone?

Back in the 80's the Inn was a great place and packed every weekend - this was when Alex and Ruth Alexander ran the Inn. It would be great to see it come alive again as it once was.
My husband also has the lottery fantasy of owning the Inn - although his wife prefers to move to Anguilla and live on the beach with the lottery winnings!

My lottery fantasy is to open a mini version of the coop in the old town hall (and of course feature local growers, meats, and baked goods).

Having the Inn reopen with the RIGHT menu would be wonderful for Falls Village. Who will be FV's "Santa" and DO IT?!?!

We need someone (maybe a restauranteur from one of the other towns..) with some vision and guts to maybe rent the Inn for a year and just open up the pub and restaurant. S/he could have ballots for us to submit our 2 to 5 favorite foods we want to see on a menu and casually eat NOT dine. Start simple! Is that too wild and outlandish? I don't know the 1st thing about costs, etc., but at this point Elyse Harney may be ready and willing to try something different.

Here are my food choices: a great cheeseburger, BLT, turkey club, good grilled fish, lightly-lightly breaded fish & chips, divine mashed potatoes, succulent chicken pot pies in the winter, a gentle balsamic-dressed salad with walnuts, gorgonzola, tomats, etc, and a superb Caesar salad.

OK, what are your favorite menu choices when you want to go eat (NOT DINE) with your spouse, kids, friends at a friendly spot and not spend the college tuitions??
. PS-Get rid of that brown in the pub too.
