"Those Magic Changes"

There's something about being in a play--memorizing lines and dance steps, pretending to be somebody else, collaborating as a team, performing before an audience of both relatives and strangers --that makes it a life-changing experience whether you're the star or in the chorus. When the final curtain comes down on the Falls Village Children's Theater Summer Camp's one-night-only production of "Grease," none of the 27 kids in the cast [below] will be the same people they were three weeks ago when rehearsals started. If you want to witness some magic changes (and see some of the most charismatic young thespians in the northwest corner) get thee to Housatonic Valley Regional High School where Grease (directed and choreographed by Lanny Mitchell) goes on at 7 PM on Saturday, August 18. (Admission is free, but donations to the not-for-profit Falls Village Children's Theater Company are enthusiastically accepted.)

Well FVCT did it again. Grease was impressive, especially how Lanny Mitchell found ways to use all the kids in the show so that it was not only about the stars who were really terrific. Bravo to everyone involved! Long live FVCT.

Like shows in the past, this show owed much of its success to the myriad members of this great community who pitched in. Guy and Patty Rovezzidonated wonderful Freund cookies and H2O for the concession and when Guy was overwhelmed during intermission our intrepid blogger and Dina Jaeger jumped into the fray. Sarah Clawson worked with the kids backstage. Andrea and Tim Downs, whose kids were away and didn't participate in this show, helped with hair, makeup, technology and clean-up. Cheryl Pecha went well beyond her duties and drove all over the tri-state region for costumes and props and kept camp organized, on-task, and disciplined; her husband Dave ran lights and helped clean as well. Gina Jasmine provided access to the school and worked for the production and clean-up crew. Jenny Law and Alan Lovejoy helped st up and clean up even though they had no child involved in this particular show. There were numerous others... I know I'm leaving some out... but nobody did it for the recognition.
In Falls Village, they really are all our children. What an honor to be a part of it.
