It's Beginning to Look A lot Like Christmas

The closest thing Falls Village has to Santa's Workshop is Sweet William's Bakery , which is tucked behind 100 Main Street. Baker Jason Young and his ebullient assistant, Sharon Hamilton, are busy baking extraordinary gingerbread men, snowman cookies and other sweets that make great holiday gifts. He'll package your presents in tins or baskets and tie them with ribbons so you're good to go. Jason has lovingly decorated his humble storefront with greenery and sparkling lights, which make you wish more than ever that his shop were right on Main Street, where Sweet William's could really shine.

I was happy to see Sweet William's cookies for sale at Guido's in Great Barrington the last time I was up there. I bought the chocolate chip, and I am pleased to report that they were VERY good!

Geoff, Sweet William's cookies are available in La Bonne's and you can stop by the bakery in Falls Village to pick up delicious cheesecake and pies. I love all of Jason baked goodies, but as I live across the street and could so easily add a major amount to my waist line, I restrict myself to buying gifts only. Last year I bought teacher gifts from Sweet William for all my son's mainly young male teachers. Beautifully wrapped by Jason and a huge hit with the recipients. AND this is a place the kids visit and buy a single cookie - one of the few places in town that they can do this.

I agree with Elizabeth...living across the street from Sweet William's is dangerous but wonderful! We are so lucky to have Jason here in Falls Village.

As I was driving past the Senior Center yesterday, I thought where is Clifton Jaeger when we need him? Yes, I am tired of seeing the paper or white cloth covering all the windows on the first floor of 107 Main Street

I don't remember how long the current tenant has been there, so I hope I'm not being too unneighborly, but I really believe it's time for him/her to think what the office looks like to the rest of us.

So here's my rant and rave: I think the windows are unfriendly and unattractive. We have Sweet William's colorful sign where a business owner on Main Street added something positive, not to mention his charming Christmas lights and greenery--oh, would that he were on Main Street. Our Community Center has greenery and little white lights plus a handsome new roof to make it look spiffier than it has in ages. It's a joy to look at now. Not to mention the charming homes. And then we have those windows.
I think it would be an improvement if we could just see the uncovered glass again. If there has to be a window treatment (la de da), then I'd prefer anything else to what's there now. And I'll go for broke here, I'd like more "holiday" lights. I love wreaths, I'll throw in a wreath or two. LEDs are so energy efficient.

When I drive by this building, I think about some of FV's traditions I love--sitting on the steps to watch the Memorial Day parade or the Halloween parade, going upstairs for community dinners, or to watch Santa talk to our kids. All signs of a warm and caring community--so please, sir or madame, please think about making your shop windows more welcoming, friendly and neighborly.

Mary,
Do you read minds? My heart sinks everytime I drive by the black hole that is the old Town Hall. Yes, lights and a wreath or two would be very nice indeeed...

maybe natural light isn't good for the snakes this time of year and he has to keep the windows covered.
